I’m sure you’ve all heard the word affirmation used at some time or another. affirmation_quote_napoleon-hill-11Some people say they work and some people say don’t. If you use affirmations correctly, they can improve the way you think and the way you see the world. This in turn can help turn your life around by helping you achieve success, more money, healthy relationships, etc. You create the world you want to live in. “You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”-Napoleon Hill

There are many success stories out there of people using affirmations to attract whatever they desire into their lives. Even Napoleon Bonaparte used affirmations to become the powerful person he knew he was going to become. He probably didn’t know at the time what an affirmation was, but he believed and always said that he was going to become great and powerful. A modern day celebrity who has admitted to using affirmations for years is Oprah Winfrey.

Affirmations help destroy mental barriers you have put up in your head and they reinforce positive thoughts. Destroying these barriers and reinforcing positive thoughts leads to changing the way you interact with people, the environment and even the way you become motivated. This in turn leads to opportunities that you weren’t open to before. Seemingly magical and unexpected things can happen from this. If you keep repeating negative statements or constantly think sad thoughts, your subconscious mind accepts that as true, and that leads to similar events and situations happening to you (I’m not judging anyone who purposefully wants to lead a sad unhappy life! haha). So…don’t be like that, and try to turn your life around and make it what YOU want it to be.

After using these affirmations, you will get results. It is good to give thanks after your dream or goals come true. You can do this by thanking the universe or by giving back to the community with some form or another.

Steps to using affirmations:

1. Clear your mind

In this step ignore all distractions around you.

2. Picture the affirmation clearly in your mind

Imagine a vivid image of the affirmation. For example, if you want to attract wealth, imagine money flying towards you from all directions, kind of like a magnet.

3. Say the affirmation loudly or silently in your head. They can also be written down.

Depending on which you prefer and your location; you don’t want to be saying “I am attracting money” loudly in a line at Starbucks!

4. Don’t just say or write the affirmation, really understand and feel it. Say the affirmation as if it has already taken place.

You really need to BELIEVE what you are writing down or saying in your head. Don’t just say or write it down for the sake of writing or saying. If not, you won’t see any changes. Always say the affirmations as it is has already taken place, for example, using statements such as I am wealthy, I am confident, etc…

5. Repeat as needed.

You can use affirmations as many times as you need to. Twice a day, three times a day, ten times a day…It just depends on you! I personally like splitting them up like a workout routine, so if I would do it 3 times a day, 12 times each, I would structure it like this in my journal: “3×12″.

6. Never use affirmations that have a negative statement in them, such as: I am never going to fail. Instead use something such as: I am successful at everything I do.

Affirmations aren’t the holy grail in changing your life around, but they remain a huge factor in how you can change your thoughts and your subconscious mind, and this leads to growth in every aspect of your life. Many people have used affirmations for creating wealth, having better relationships, losing weight, etc, but you have to remember that everything worth having is hard, and there are no shortcuts. Therefore, you will have to stick with your affirmations everyday for at least a month before you start to see anything happening, but if you believe in your affirmations and work towards your goals, you will succeed in everything you do and attract whatever your heart desires (to a certain extent! I wish I could fly…but that ain’t going to happen anytime soon!). Just saying affirmations aren’t going to help you. You will need to take the necessary steps in achieving these goals. There is no substitute for hard work and perseverance. Napoleon Bonaparte didn’t just sit there all day believing he was great…he went out, saw opportunities and grabbed them, because he believed he was going to be great someday.

You have all the tools at your disposal and it is up to you to become the person you’ve always dreamt of becoming.
